One of today’s Forensic Science activities was a hands-on workshop focused on fingerprinting, ballistics & tool marks, blood spatter, and anthropology! Over the course of four sessions, each group of students will rotate through each workshop and work in teams to gain valuable insights and skills within each topic. Students in the anthropology workshop were given photos of human skeletal remains and were tasked to determine bone trauma, sex, and probable race. Students in the blood spatter workshop completed a Kastle Meyer Reagent Test, where they identified potential blood stains on stuffed animals. Students in the ballistics & tool marks workshop analyzed various tool marks, ultimately identifying which suspect committed the crime based on tool mark impressions and practicing measuring caliber. Students in the fingerprinting workshop practiced using magnetic fingerprint powder to find prints and ink pads to roll their fingerprints to determine their fingerprint patterns.
